Alitalia adds Rome to Havana route

14/09/2016 by Kevincm

Whilst the USA are celebrating direct bookable flights to Cuba, Europe continues to add more routes – with the introduction of a Rome to Havana route to be operated by Alitalia.

The new service will connect Rome Fiumicino to Havana twice a week from 29th November 2016.

The route will operate as follows:

Rome-FCO to Havana
AZ632 DEPART FCO 09:05 ARRIVE HAV 15:00 Tuesdays
AZ632 DEPART FCO 10:35 ARRIVE HAV 16:30 Saturdays

Havana to Rome FCO
AZ633 DEPART HAV 17:00 ARRIVE FCO 09:00+1 Tuesdays
AZ633 DEPART HAV 18:30 ARRIVE FCO 10:30+1 Saturdays

AZ632/633 operates Tuesdays and Saturdays Only.
Commences 29th November 2016
Booked Equipment: Boeing 777-200ER

This is a further expansion of the Alitalia network – being the fourth new city served in 2016 (the others being Santiago, Mexico City and Beijing).

Alitalia seem happy to launch the route, with Cramer Ball, Alitalia CEO stating:

Tourism and business in Cuba have great growth prospects for Italians and this new service to this wonderful island will go towards fulfilling that ambition. The Havana flights is yet further confirmation of Alitalia’s strategy to build our long-haul network of intercontinental flights to give Italians greater opportunities to travel further afield for both leisure and business.

The planes will be configured in Alitalia’s three-class configuration, made up of:

  • 30 Magnifica Business Class Seats in a 1-2-1 formation
  • 24 Classica Plus Premium Economy seats in a 2-4-2 formation
  • 239 Economy Seats in a 3-4-3 formation

For an airline that was on the brink of failure, Alitalia is recovering one step at a time – with quality improvements as well as route and network.

The path maybe long for Alitalia and its equity owners (most notably – Etihad), but with the airline showing its possible potential… anything is possible for this airline.

Even new routes.
