Why exactly?
- The devices have been formally recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
- Samsung had initiated a recall of the device
- Airlines are banning the device being carried at all during flight
- And the US FAA has imposed new rules on the carriage of them (in so many words – recalled electronic items cannot be carried as cargo or passenger items)
- There have been more reports of more of them going up in flames, causing at least 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage.
So. If you’ve still got a Samsung Galaxy Note 7…. Why?
Over 1 million devices are out there – and unless you’ve had a brand new replacement unit from Samsung, you need to do the following:
- Back up your data
- Power down the device
- Return it to Samsung or your mobile phone vendor.
And please do not have any ideas taking it with you when you fly – you will be asked to keep the device in a powered off state and not to charge it.
So please – if you have a Samsung Galaxy Note7… return it. Now.
Because the last bit of news I want to see is one of those phones in the plane with the battery deciding to explode.
The results of that do not even bear thinking about.

I been waiting two weeks for a return package slip from Samsung. I don’t have the option to return to carrier because I bought directly from Samsung.com. This is ridiculous, that’s why I just preordered the Iphone 7. Goodbye Samsung.

I been trying to give my phone back for a month and my carrier or Samsung wanna take it back. In fact, they both told me to keep the phone until a replacement is sent.. you don’t believe me? I made sure it was documented because I was concerned of my phone getting very hot.. yes, I hope it blows up and I get to tell the story because it’s not fair how I was treated.
