Time for a new series of Snapshots, providing you a quick look into a recent trip I’ve done.
In case you’ve forgotten how trip reports work on Economy Class and Beyond:
- Snapshots – They provide a quick look at a travel event (be it a flight or hotel) with a little commentary
- Trip reports – Provide the full in-depth trip details, with commentary and humor.
So first up: BA458 London Heathrow to Madrid
Boarding
Boarding was via bus and air-stairs, with boarding called from Gate A10. Those of you who are regular visitors to Economy Class and Beyond will know of my love of Gate A10 and my thinly veiled sarcasm that Heathrow Airport didn’t build enough gates when building Terminal 5.
The Plane
It’s an Airbus A321 – the long stretch of the A320 family operating BA458 to Madrid.
Seating
Like the majority of the British Airways short-haul fleet, the plane has been fitted out with B/E Aerospace Pinnacle seats.
Club Europe seats. Middle seat blocked and antimacassar seems to be the main difference between the two classes at the moment.
Regular readers will also know my thoughts about these… although for a short two-hour flight… they’re just about acceptable.
The seat I had was an exit row seat. And there is infinite leg room in this seat.
The down side is the window. Or lack thereof after. Therefore the only available windows are the porthole from the emergency exit…
Or from the seat behind you (most of these were luck).
The cabin is a standard Airbus short-haul cabin.
Food and Drink
Yes, there was catering (we’re still in the time where BA is still giving food and drink away, rather than charge for it). Breakfast was a ham and cream cheese croissant with a diet coke. I’d wager that’s about £5 when BA get to charge for it next year.
