Singapore Airlines is in the mood for more long-haul aircraft from Boeing – and has signed a letter of intent for a mixture of Boeing 777-9’s and 787-10s

Singapore Airlines intends to purchase 20 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, and an additional 19 Boeing 787-10 aircraft.
In addition, the airline re-confirmed its commitment to purchase 30 787-10 Dreamliners. This will bring Singapore Airlines a total of 49 787-10s, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines.
The Boeing 777-9s (the next generation Boeing 777s) will be powered by GE9X engines.
As the new aircraft aren’t firm orders, these aren’t showing in the Boeing order book yet.
Singapore Airlines is the launch customer of the Boeing 787-10 (the second stretch of the Boeing 787), with the 787-10 being the first type of 787.
The airline operates a mixture of Boeing 777-200, 777-200ER, 777-300, 777-300ER, as well as Airbus A33s, A350 and A380 in its fleet.
For Singapore Airlines, it’s a move to secure its long-haul fleet and the opportunities the 787-10 will bring. How those 787-10s will be deployed will be the big question.

Singapore Airlines did order 787-8 and -9, but chose to transfer them to their subsidiary Scoot.
