British Airways add direct services from Dublin and Edinburgh for the summer

18/02/2017 by Kevincm

It seems someone at British Airways route planning/capacity planning really wants to work the Embraer fleet work hard during the weekends, with the announcement of new routes from Dublin and Edinburgh to the Balearic Islands.

BA8735 Frankfurt to London City Airport (Club Europe)

The routes will operate from May onwards for the summer season to keep you in the sun. These will run as a two-class service (Club Europe and EuroTraveller).

Let’s start with Dublin to Ibiza:

BA2349 DEPART DUB 22:25 ARRIVE IBZ 02:20+1 FRIDAY ONLY
BA2348 DEPART IBZ 09:00 ARRIVE DUB 10:55 SUNDAY ONLY

BA2349 operates Fridays only between 19 May - 29 September 2017
BA2348 operates Sundays only between 21 May - 1 October 2017

Lead-in prices start at €49 one way on a basic fare. Those who want luggage and seat reservation will need to pay more. Club Europe is offered too.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh gets a link to Palma de Mallorca with a weekly service.

BA2347 DEPART EDI 06:15 ARRIVE PMI 10:15 FRIDAY ONLY
BA2346 DEPART PMI 11:10 ARRIVE EDI 13:15 SUNDAY ONLY

BA2349 operates Fridays only between 2 June - 22 September 2017
BA2348 operates Sundays only between 21 May - 1 October 2017

Lead-in prices start at £59 one way on a basic fare. Those who want luggage and seat reservation will need to pay more. Club Europe is offered too.

Both services will use Embraer E-190 aircraft, in both a Club Europe and EuroTraveller configuration in a 2-2 configuration.

As I stated in an earlier article when British Airways announced services from Birmingham and Bristol – these new services aren’t being run out of the goodness of BA’s heart – this is down to the airline wanting to utilise its E-190 fleet in the weekends when London City Airport is closed.

In other words – increasing fleet utilisation.

The Edinburgh to Palma route has a lot of competition on it – with Jet2, Ryanair, Thomson Airways and Easyjet all fighting for the customer. Meanwhile, the Dublin to Ibiza pair will contend with  Ryanair and Thomson Airways.

That’s heavy competition to go up against on a one return pair a week.

British Airways *addS*, not *add*…referring to a corporation or similar entity, requires a singular verb, regardless of any plural words within the name!
