United Airlines adds summer route to Munich

28/02/2017 by Kevincm

As we head towards the summer season (check your calendars – we’re at the end of February already), airlines are rushing to get their summer timetables settled.

United Airlines is adding a summer service between San Francisco and Munich.

The summer only service will operate daily to Munich between 24th May 2017 through to 3rd September 2017.

Timings are as below:

UA194 DEPART SFO 14:05 ARRIVE MUC 10:25+1
UA195 DEPART MUC 12:10 ARRIVE SFO 14:50

Operates between 24th May 2017 through to 3rd September 2017 (last departure from SFO)
Operates Daily
Booked Equipment: Boeing 787-8
Data: RoutesOnline

The service will run daily during the summer months (but sadly, not into the Oktoberfest season).

United Airlines will be deploying a Boeing 787-8 on the San Francisco to Munich route, configured with

  • 36 “Polaris” /United Business Class Seats in a 2-2-2 formation
  • 70 Economy Plus Seats in a 3-3-3 formation
  • 113 Economy Seats in a 3-3-3 formation

A route like this actually is a good demonstration of the Boeing 787 project – to connect airports on a point to point basis that are thin and long – and with limited traffic numbers. Whilst the route might not justify a larger plane than a Boeing 787-8, it should operate the route – it’s large enough to carry a decent amount of fare paying passengers on the segment.

Booking was opened a few days ago and should be showing for those who want to grab a seat via the usual redemption methods.

2pm is a poor departure for outbound as it’s not conductive to sleep. But no doubt timed for ongoing connections at MUC. Personally would much prefer 5pm ETD
