A lot of us who travel in the air continue to reach out and connect to the Internet whilst in the air to carry out tasks.
In the case of many of us, we turn to a provider like Gogo, who in turn works with the airline to provision equipment to allow the magic of the Internet to appear in the cabin.
Gogo has taken a major step forward, with the announcement that Gogo has been selected by Airbus to be a lead supplier for its High Bandwidth Connectivity (HBC) program.
What does that mean? It means the Gogo 2Ku solution can be line-fitted (fitted at the build of the aircraft). In other words, when an airline gets an aircraft line-fitted with Gogo 2Ku, it’ll work out of the box, ready to work on day one.

The solution has been validated for the Airbus A320 Family, A330 family and A380 aircraft.
Anand Chari, executive vice president and CTO at Gogo states:
“We are proud to be selected by Airbus as a supplier for Airbus’ high bandwidth connectivity program and look forward to working with them to provide our industry leading 2Ku solution to their customers
The selection is acknowledgement of the traction we’ve made with 2Ku in the marketplace. It’s also validation of the long-term viability of this technology and its ability to serve commercial aviation for the foreseeable future.”
Gogo’s 2Ku is currently flying in the air, and has 13 commercial airlines who are implementing it in their fleets.
Currently, Gogo has commitments for over 1500 aircraft to have 2Ku fitted to their planes – with the majority of installs completed by the end of 2018.
With 2Ku making big waves in terms to the “at seat” connectivity, seeing the technology line-fitted will make deployment a lot easier as Gogo’s 2Ku footprint grow.
