The seven extra planes are on top of an existing order for 32 Airbus A321neo aircraft. Cebu Pacific will be targeting these planes to operate on its domestic and regional operations.
The extra planes are based on the current Airbus A321ceo (Current Engine Option) as opposed to the neo (New Engine Option)
The seven extra planes will commence delivery in 2018.
Lance Gokongwei, Cebu Pacific President and CEO states:
We are very excited about adding the A321 to our fleet.
The aircraft will enable us to increase capacity on popular routes, while at the same time benefiting from the lowest operating costs in this size category. This will mean more low fares for more customers flying across our domestic and regional network.”
Cebu Pacific is an Airbus and ATR operator – operating four Airbus A319s and 36 Airbus A320s in its narrow body fleet and eight Airbus A330-300s in its long haul fleet. The airline operates 14 ATR-72 aircraft.
Whilst not a massive order, it will give the airline a chance to get used to operating the largest member of the A320 family, and probably will assist when it comes to planning where to deploy the A321neo aircraft when they start arriving.
