Day three has been and gone at Le Bourget, so it must be time to see who has opened their wallets or got their pens out to sign for more aeroplanes at The Paris Air Show.
Boeing
This year seems to be the year of Boeing, with more orders pouring in for the 737 MAX. Again, I’ll split this by Commercial orders (ie those from airlines) and Lessors (those who buy aircraft to lease to operators).
Commercial
- El Al of Israel was first out of the traps, with an announce for three Boeing 787 Dreamliners. These are to be split by two 787-8s and one 787-9 aircraft.

- Neos of Italy will lease two 737 MAXs from AerCap to be the Italian launch customer of the 737 MAX. First planes are due in 2019

- Malaysia Airlines are converting 10 of its 737 MAX orders into… you’ve guessed it – Boeing 737 MAX 10s

- Xiamen Airlines of China signs a MoU for 10 737 MAX 10 Airplanes
- Copa Airlines will join the Boeing 737 MAX 10 launch family, with an order for 15 aircraft

Lessors
- Air Lease Corporation announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 12 737 MAXs, split between five 737 MAX 7s and seven 737 MAX 8s.
Airbus
Continuing a quiet show for Airbus, who are still filing the odd small order. Who knows… they might have one last thing to show off tomorrow….
- Wizz Air will be taking another 10 A321ceo with a firm contract signed.
- HiFly (the airline that tends to fill in for other airlines when things go wrong) will be making its first direct purchases from Airbus, for two Airbus A330-200s

- WOW Air is taking delivery of its first A321neo – the first European operator of the type.

And finally – something interesting from L3 and Airbus – a new flight data recorder. Whilst not that exicting as a new plane, it has big consequences when something goes wrong with a plane The new devices will come in two versions: a fixed crash-protected Cockpit Voice and Data Recorder (CVDR), capable of recording up to 25 hours of voice and flight data on a single recorder; and an Automatic Deployable Flight Recorder (ADFR).
In other words – an eject-able flight data recorder in case the worst should happen to an aircraft. It will first be offered on the A350-900.
ATR
Whilst there’s no new orders today, ATR are working on a version of its smaller aircraft – the ATR42-600 with a Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) capabilities. The ATR42-600s is now in a position to offer it to customers.
The ATR42-600s will be able to take off with a full load of passengers (30-5o depending on configuration), with a runway of length of just 800 meters long, with a range of 800nm.
Bombardier
Yes, I talked about their trains earlier. However, they have appeared to rack up a Letter of Intent from CemAir of South Africa for two Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft.
Embraer
All quiet in the Embraer chalet with no new orders today.
So that’s it for Day 3. A stream of steady orders, but nothing to set the world alight. As we head into Day 4 – the final day of the trade show element of the Paris Air Show – it’s almost time for Airbus to pull a big order out of the hat before Boeing heads home, with a massive order book to fill….
