It seems logic is beginning to prevail, with the Electronics ban being lifted between Abu Dhabi and US destinations – allowing Etihad passengers to carry their laptops, cameras, tablets and large electronic items in their hand luggage.
The US Transportation Security Administration and Department of Transport lifted the ban yesterday, with EY171 to New York being the first flight to clear this hurdle.

2/2 Kudos to @EtihadAirways for swift security changes. Passengers will now be able to bring PEDs into the cabin of their US-bound flights

It seems that Eithad and Abu Dhabi airport have cleared the requirements set down by TSA and DHS in terms of screening passengers to the United States.
Abu Dhabi already has US Pre-clearance already – so the electronics ban did’t make sense in the first place as a country/airport has to meet a high standard to get that pre-clearance facility.
However, it seems that the TSA and DHS have been appeased in how the airport authority and Etihad are managing the security situation – so to instantiate the allowance of large electronic items.
Hopefully, this is the start of some airports returning to some sense of normality – because the current situation is not normal.
9 out the 10 airports still are subject to the electronics ban, with the UK imposing its own ban too on certain countries.
