When I was growing up (as I’ve matured badly) one of the bands I loved was Queen, and of course its flamboyant (and very difficult to reproduce vocally) lead singer – Freddie Mercury.
Well, it seems fitting for an airline that allows people to experience the joy of travel cheaply, Norwegian Air Shuttle are to paint Freddie Mercury on the tail of two of their Boeing aircraft – one Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and one Boeing 737-800.

The first Freddie Mercury tail fin will take to the skies this summer, ahead of what would have been his 71st birthday this September.
Freddie Mercury will be joining Bobby Moore (footballer), Roald Dahl (author), Amy Johnson (pilot) and Sir Freddie Laker (aviation maverick).
Norwegian’s Chief Commercial Officer Thomas Ramdahl states
“As Norwegian continues its rapid expansion in the UK, our ‘tail fin heroes’ offer us a perfect chance to pay tribute to some of the greatest Britons of all time.
Freddie Mercury inspired generations of music fans around the globe and it is a huge honour to have one of the greatest singers of all time adorn our aircraft.”
And as for the tail… It’s already painted from the looks of things.

Oh yes, I teased it in the introductory title – and here’s Freddie Mercury and Queen performing “It’s a Kind of Magic” – Live at Wembley Stadium.
