London tip: Ride By Bus

15/07/2017 by Kevincm

A lot of tourists and locals default transportation method is a simple one: head for the Tube

But if you have time.. do yourself a favour and take the bus.

a double decker bus and cars on a street
Whilst the Underground is great getting from A to B – you’re missing out a lot of the city and it’s sights.

Holborn

Baker Street

a large white building with a large archway and trees

Kings College

The Thames from Waterloo Bridge.

In terms of accessibility, here’s easier to use than trains or the underground (no fiddly stairs), and for those with buggies a there’s normally a buggy bay too.

Fares are set centrally – and of course, you pay with an Oyster Card or a Contactless Payment card, set at £1.50 a ride with a £4.50 daily cap.

Of course, these caps change if you go multi-modal (so the normal one day caps then apply)

So next you come to London – try the buses. You’ll see more of the city – that’s for sure.

Pretty much in any big city take the local bus! Not the hop on hop tourist off bus … the local bus. Plus can hang out with locals and maybe strike up a conversation and get some great tips on where to go!

I feel the same way about the bus system in Paris – the Metro is faster but you miss a lot.

If you take into the time you have to get into the metro and walk all over the place underground etc you do not save time with the metro/subway/tube.. With the bus you can take right from the street.
