There are some thing in the aviation world that have been pretty timeless. One of those things is the old British Airways safety video – which has had so many nips and tucks, it was getting to the point where it needed to be redone.
Well – the new video is ready – and here’s the directors cut.
Gone is the bunny and the kids with a Concorde on his t-shirt and the laughably bad animation of old – and in with celebrities auditioning, showing the safety features of this aeroplane, featuring
- Gordon Ramsay (chef)
- Rob Brydon (actor)
- Sir Ian McKellen (national treasure)
- Rowan Atkinson (national treasure)
- Chiwetel Ejiofor (actor)
- Jim Broadbent (actor)
- Thandie Newton (actor)
- Gillian Anderson (actress)
- Warwick Davis (actor)
- Jess Glynne (singer)
- Chabuddy G (actor and comedian – Asim Chaudhry)
The new safety video according to British Airways has been designed to help customers absorb important safety messages, while boosting fund-raising for ‘Flying Start’, the global charity partnership between British Airways and Comic Relief.
There’s also a “Behind the scenes” video too:
Alex Cruz, British Airways’ chairman and CEO, states
“It’s extremely important to us that customers engage with our safety video, and involving some of the nation’s most well-known personalities has given us the chance to create something fun that we hope people will watch from start to finish – and remember.
We’ve worked with Comic Relief since 2010 and our customers have already helped us generate £16.5 million for great causes. We hope the new video will enable us to exceed our goal of raising £20 million by 2020.”
If there’s one thing that British Airways failed to do – it was innovate with its safety video – one only need look as far as Delta (who kicked off the reinvention of the safety video) and Air New Zealand (who can knock out great safety message after safety message).
At last – there’s something modern to show off British Airways with – and I like it.
The new video will take to the sky from the 1st September 2017
