JetBlue launches Airspace by Airbus for Narrowbody aircraft

27/09/2017 by Kevincm

Big news from APEX Expo, with JetBlue to launch the narrow-body variant of “Airspace by Airbus”, along with the first mock-up previewed.

The new cabin will launch with JetBlue in late 2020 and fitted to new A320neo aircraft.

The cabin features customisable welcome experiences that apply to the whole cabin, large overhead bins, a wider interior width, lots of full-colour LED lighting and a new lavatory design.

There have been some pictrues taken by the media out in Long Beach, CA showing the concept and how it will be delivered on a narrow body product.

JetBlue and Airbus have been working together since 1999, with JetBlue using a fleet of 176 A320 family aircraft (Airbus A320 and A321s), with orders currently for another 102 aircraf

Going through the quotes, Robin Hayes, President and CEO of JetBlue states

“The Airspace cabin is aligned with our efforts to create an experience as comfortable as your own living room. We are looking forward to our continued partnership with Airbus. The launch of the new Airspace by Airbus interior will takes JetBlue’s commitment to customer experience to the next level.”

Ingo Wuggetzer, VP Cabin Marketing states:

“We are very proud to jointly reveal with JetBlue the first A320 Airspace mock-up at APEX Expo in Long Beach, California, which gives a first glimpse of what promises to be a match made at 35,000ft.

As industry leader and trendsetter, JetBlue has the ideal DNA to launch the world’s newest single-aisle interior with us.”

Short haul cabins can sometimes be seen as the last thing to consider when shopping for interiors – as you are aiming the send customers from A to B, get them of the plane, and get the plane somewhere else.

There has been some movement in the past – such as the Boeing Sky Interior. The move by Airbus to introduce its Airspace cabin in a narrow body plane – providing it’s mixed with the right seating – should be an interesting cabin to watch.

More importantly, will be to see who else chooses to deploy Airspace by Airbus on the A320neo platform.
