The order is for a firm 15 CRJ-900 aircraft, with options for additional 15 if needed.
These new CRJ-900 aircraft will be fitted out with Bombardier’s Atmosphère cabin – which promises an enhanced passenger experience and more space to stow roller bags aboard the plane
The firm order at list prices is worth a cool US$ 719 million.
On the order, Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft stated:
“We are pleased with American’s continued confidence in Bombardier and the CRJ900 aircraft
This order is a testament to the tremendous value that the CRJ Series provides to airlines in the North American regional market. With its outstanding economics and new cabin design, the CRJ900 continues to offer unique revenue growth opportunities, while delivering the most modern regional jet cabin features in line with today’s trends and requirements.”
Upon delivery, these 15 new aircraft will be configured in a two-class configuration, with 12 First Class seats and 64 Main Cabin seats.
It is intended that PSA Airlines will operate the aircraft on behalf of American Airlines, with delivery of the new aircraft to commence Q2 2019.
American Airlines operates a number of CRJ-900 under its American Eagle operation – with 64 operated by Mesa Airlines and 54 operated under PSA Airline (a wholly owned business under American Airlines).
As for the Atmosphere Cabin… that warrants a discussion another day…
