This follows the announcement in May by the group to order additional aircraft.
It brings the Lufthansa narrowbody order book to 122 A320neo family (77 A320neo, 45 A321neo), and 273 A320 family aircraft.
On the confirmation of the order Eric Schulz, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer stated:
“We are delighted to see this additional order from our biggest A320 operator Lufthansa Group,”
“Benefitting from the Airbus commonality and the A320 Family’s efficiency and environmental credentials such as reduced noise, lower fuel-burn and emissions, we are pleased the airline has decided to come back for more.”
Whilst it’s a tag-on order, it is interesting to see more A320ceo family being ordered. With delivery delays that have been encountered, it’s a useful extra for Lufthansa fleet to use whilst Airbus iron out the issues (particularly with the Pratt and Whitney PW1100G engines.
