The new operation is as follows.

SAS are quite open with the change to the service – the Stockholm to Hong Kong route had problems making a profit. It seems the Hong Kong International had a new slot the could make the Scandinavia to Hong Kong route work – but to make it work, they would have to switch to Copenhagen for operational reasons.
The airline will also switch the aircraft from an Airbus A330 to an Airbus A340-300.
On the route change, Karl Sandlund, EVP Commercial, SAS states
“We look forward to being able to offer our customers a better timetable with attractive night flights to and from Kastrup. Obviously, it’s sad that we’re moving from Stockholm, but in this case, Copenhagen offers better long-term opportunities that will enable us to further improve the SAS customer experience,”
“SAS has a strong presence at all the major Scandinavian airports. It is important for us to review all our routes on a continuous basis in order to be able to maximize the benefits for both passengers and our profitability,”
Passengers who are currently booked on the direct service will be re-booked on the new Copenhagen service. For passengers who are looking at booking, tickets have gone on sale today.
It’s refreshing to see an airline say in so many words “This route isn’t working as intended” and are prepared to try something different to make a route work. Providing the times and the connectivity works out, it should offer customers a good option to and from the Fragrant Harbour.
