The Stroopwafels. As a lot of us know, it’s a form of happiness in wafer and caramel form. Be it on the ground or at 35,000ft. For the past couple of years, United Airlines have been offering them in the air.
However, that’s set to change with the introduction of Maple Wafer cookies.

The new snack made by Byrd Cookie Company will be rolled out beginning this weekend on US Domestic flights departing before 9:45am.
According to the airline the cookie “that combines a crunchy texture with a sweet maple flavor.”
While maple syrup is most often associated with pancakes and waffles, the flavor is becoming more popular in a variety of foods and beverages, with Google Trends data showing an increase in searches related to maple and many heralding it as the “next pumpkin spice.”
… The “Next Pumpkin Spice”. Words honestly fail me.
Meanwhile, Vice President of Catering Operations Charlean Gmunder states:
“We know that maple is an increasingly appealing flavor, and we are always looking for ways to capitalize on trends in taste buds”
As for the cookie by Byrd Cookie Company, the cookie according to the PR
… combines a rich buttery flavor with a hint of maple and just the right pinch of salt to create a delightfully addictive snack. It is a play on the benne wafer and a modern twist on a cookie that has been baking for almost 70 years.
Ok. I’m remotely tempted if a pack lands in my hands (if I flew United that is).
On the cookies, Byrd Cookie Company CEO Stephanie Lindley states:
“We created this cookie using only the finest ingredients, and we continue to bake in small batches so that we can consistently deliver high-quality confections”
For those who are worried about Stroopwafels and them vanishing completely… there’s some good news. Firstly, they’re available on flights departing Europe before 09:30 in the morning, and United are planning to rotate them back into the morning line-up as they rotate snacks.
Snacks are a small part of the passenger experience – but an important one when stuck in a metal tube when you’re either relaxing or working.
It’ll be interesting to see how these new snacks go down in the air… although they have to fight with the Biscotti…
And no, United Airlines didn’t send me a pack to test…

Every maple flavoured snack I’ve ever had has been way, WAY too sweet. (And I like sweet things.)
This is a definite downgrade – Stroopwafels are awesome!
(But the maple cookies will stlll be better than the “we have peanuts…and sometimes pretzels…that’s it…” Southwest offers.)
The snack basket on JetBlue is still the best snack offering in the States – free and most FAs actively encourage you to take more than one!

I just flew United and nearly passed on the cookies, not typically a fan of maple stuff. But I am not even upset. I had to google it after the flight to see where I could buy these.
Stroopwafels are too sweet for my liking.
