This is the first of sixteen Airbus A350 aircraft due to the airline.
The first one is named after the opera singer – Plácido Domingo
These planes are configured with 31 Business Class bed seats, 24 Premium Economy seats and 293 Economy Class seats.
The new A350 includes further improvements with a wing twist, extended winglets and an increased maximum take-off weight (280t).
On the handover, Luis Gallego, President of Iberia states
“We are delighted to receive our first A350, an aircraft that represents perfectly the efficiency and modernity of the new Iberia, as well as the power and energy that brought us here,”
“If during these last years we transformed ourselves to survive, now we are transforming ourselves for excellence, a cycle change that this new aircraft represents so well.”
The International Airlines Group now operates every variant of the Airbus fleet – from the small A318, through to the A380.
The Iberia arm of IAG is an “all-Airbus” operator, operating A319s, A320s, A321s, A330 family and A340 family. Iberia Express operates a mixture of A320 and A321, whilst franchisee Air Nordstrum operates ATR and CRJ aircraft.
The Iberia Airbus A350-900 will see initial introduction on the Madrid – London Heathrow route, followed by a rollout on the Madrid to New York JFK route
