With me off the ATR72-600, I headed aboard the waiting shuttle bus. With the bus loading quickly, it was sent on its way for a quick ramp tour of Birmingham Airport, before arriving at the arrival doors for Irish arrivals.
Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner
British Airways CityFlyer Embraer E-Jet.
There was a short wait whilst the doors were opened for the arrival, but soon – we were let in.
The arrivals bypass customs, and instead a police inspection point (which is hardly ever manned). Once through this, you’re in the luggage reclaim section
Luggage! Get your luggage here!
Although this chart – whilst helpful makes me ponder. Seriously… Up to 60 minutes to unload a Boeing 777?
With no luggage to take, I headed through the customs control point, and out into the public area.
Of course, this being an airport – there’s one last hurdle to clear, and that’s the last duty-free shop.
Because airports never like to leave any money on the table.
Once past that last hurdle – you’re heading into the public area.
With me clear, I headed back towards the railway station for a short ride back to New Street station.
Following the signs, I reached the AirRail link, and for once had timed it in time to meet one arriving.
Arriving into Birmingham International station, a CrossCountry Voyager was just about to depart towards Birmingham New Street. I jumped on it for the 10 minute ride on the trains to Birmingham New Street.
The difference between a CrossCountry Voyager and a Virgin Voyager? Not a lot. One is less cared for. Which one is your own thought…
Passing the airport on the way out, an Emirates Airbus A380 (one of two a day) had arrived at Birmingham Airport.
With a 10 minute ride being as such, I was soon deposited at Birmingham New Street train station – still rather warm with the heat of British Summer.
Whilst I could had waited for a bus home, I was starting to be a little more than tired. I therefore opted for a taxi ride back to the flat.
15 minutes after getting off the train, I was at my front door – the end to a great day out.
