04/10/2018 by Kevincm

Austrian Airlines is expanding its operation, with the announcement they are to add Montreal to its long haul network

The airline is adding a daily service between Vienna and Montreal from 29th April 2019. The planned operation looks like this:

OS073 DEPART VIE 10:30 ARRIVE YUL 13:35
OS074 DEPART YUL 18:45 ARRIVE VIE 08:45+

Commences 29th April 2019.
Operates Daily during summer season, 5 time a week in the winter season
Codeshared at AC6211/AC612
Equipment: TBC.

It’ll be a 10 hour run between Vienna and Montreal. Expect a Three-Class service aboard (Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class). Whilst equipment has yet to be decided, it’ll either use a Boeing 767-300ER or a Boeing 777-200.

The route has come about with Air Canada and Austrian Airline working together further. In addition, Air Canada take over the Vienna to Toronto route. The following timetable has been set for the route:

AC899 DEPART VIE 10:40 ARRIVE YYZ 13:30
AC898 DEPART YYZ 18:25 ARRIVE VID 08:30+1

Commences 29th April 2019
Operates Daily
Codeshared as OS8247/OS8248
Equipment: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

According to Austrian Airlines CCO Andreas Otto, there are benefits to working with Air Canada:

“We succeeded in attracting a strong partner in Air Canada to Vienna”,

“In this way we feature an additional destination in our Canadian offering and also strengthen our continental transfer traffic at the same time.”

Network strengthening continues to be the name of the game, and deeper codersharing (as well as joint ventures), with airlines making alliances where fiscally viable – even beyond traditional alliance lines. For those connecting between Austria and Canada, there will be more options – which is always welcome to see.
