ANA adds Tokyo to Vienna to its network

16/10/2018 by Kevincm

All Nippon Airways (ANA) is expanding its network again – this time adding the city of Vienna to its long-haul network.

The route will connect Tokyo Haneda Airport to Vienna with a daily operation from 17th February 2019.  This will be ANA’s 7th passenger route to Europe.

The planned timetable is as follows:

NH205 DEPART HND 01:55 ARRIVE VIE 06:00
NH206 DEPART VIE 11:50 ARRIVE HND 06:55+1

Commences 16th February 2019, ticket sales commence 22nd October 2018

Booked Equipment: ANA Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

ANA’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is set up in a two-class configuration with 48 Business Class seats and 167 Economy Class seats – for a total of 215 seats.

There’s room for a lot of connectivity in this too at both ends – the departure is very late in the night (allowing those connecting to Tokyo to do so in plenty of time – although good luck finding anything open at the airport), whilst the timings at Vienna will allow connections to Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Networks – with an alleged 25-50 minute gate-to-gate connection time.

On the route announcement. Seiichi Takahashi, Senior Vice President of ANA said,

“Next year Japan and Austria will commemorate the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and we are pleased to make our award-winning air travel more convenient for travelers from both nations. Vienna is known as the historical and geographical gateway to Central and Eastern Europe, and we look forward to strengthening ties between Japan and this dynamic region by offering flights that are ideal for business travelers and tourists.”

Connectivity remains the name of the game at Vienna Airport. It’s already in the middle of low-cost carrier fight – and with the airport gaining more long haul feed, it should provide some interesting possibilities in and out of Vienna. With ANA joining the party, it will give a boost to the Lufthansa Group airlines – and for passengers wanting to connect outside the bigger hubs.

Worth noting that Austrian already flies (5x weekly) between Vienna and Narita.
