In Travel – Brexit means ETIAS fees are due from 2021

14/12/2018 by Kevincm

For the Daily Mail/Dail Express reader who jets off one a year (and for the rest of us who travel because travel is enjoyable), it seems one of the side-effects of the annoying process that is Brexit (Britain leaving the European Union) will be that UK Citizens – whilst able to enter the European Union Visa-Free, you will need to apply for an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System)

The system is planned to commence in 2021

ETIAS will be an US ESTA-like system, which will apply to non-EU countries.

Yes #ETIAS will apply to the #UK as 3rd country post-Brexit – 7 euros for a 3 year pre-travel authorisation. Simple form, like #ESTA to the US, but way cheaper. #Brexit #EUCO

ETIAS is not a visa but a travel requirement for anyone on that list of 61 non-EU countries who are coming to the EU for business, tourism, medical or transit-related reasons for up to 90 days.

The EU says the ETIAS system will “undergo a detailed security check of each applicant”.

The forms are expected to be a 10 minute bit of paperwork for persons between 18-70 who will have to pay the fee.

ETIAS will last for three years. Multiple entries are allowed – with a maximum 90 days stay in a 180 day period.

Thanks Jacob and Boris…

It’s not an ideal situation, but it seems wanting blue passports and taking back control means if you want your holiday in Spain, you’re going to have to pay €7 on top.

If you’re angry about paying €7 to travel to the EU post 2021, I would suggest sending your invoices to the following:

Jacob Ress-Mogg Rt Hon Member for North East Somerset
House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA
Email: jacob.reesmogg.mp@parliament.uk

Or

Boris Johnson, Rt Hon Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip
House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA
Email: boris.johnson.mp@parliament.uk

That is – if they have jobs after the next general election.

Slightly annoying perhaps, but Brexit as a whole is more valuable. Oh well.
