With TFL Rail starting services earlier this year, ticket gate barriers finally appeared at Heathrow Central (serving terminal 2 and 3), Heathrow Terminal 4 and Heathrow Terminal 5 train stations .
However – this represents a problem for passengers who are changing terminals and are using the trains. How do they use the intra-terminal shuttle without a ticket of some sort.
Well, there’s a solution thankfully.. and it comes in the form a machine at the stations.
Look for a machine like the one below.
When you get to the machine select how many people are travelling with you
Hit Print
And lo and behold, after a short wait your tickets to use the free transfer service will pop out.
Once you’ve got the tickets – you can proceed through the gate line at the start of the journey and the end the journey – provided its inside the Heathrow zone.
If you need to travel beyond the Heathrow Terminals Zone, you’ll either need to buy a ticket for TFL Rail or Heathrow Express.
Train Transfers remain free, and there are other methods
The one big thing to state is trains transfers within the Heathrow Zone remain free. You just have to grab a ticket from the machine instead of walking directly to the train
There are other options to connect at Heathrow Airport including London Underground and the Free-Flow Zone using the buses
But there are still free options to get around Heathrow Airport – and that’s always welcome to see.
