IHG to launch new all-suite hotel brand

25/02/2019 by Kevincm

Intercontinental Hotels Group announced its results today. But that’s not the interesting part it seems.

Rather, the group is to launch another brand – this time an “all-suites hotel” brand.

According to the group the new brand will be a mid-scale brand, targeted at an $18bn industry segment.

IHG believes there is both strong guest (you and me) and owner (hotel owner and franchisee) demand – the sector driving around a 70% increase in room supply in the last 4 years. And IHG seemly wants a bit of that action.

In terms of all-suites hotels,  IHG has Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites (both aimed at the longer stay clients – as well as cost-sensitive travellers) that operate within their portfolio.

Hotel News Now reported that the cost is likely to be the same as Staybridge Suites

Details beyond this are very scant at the moment.

In his opening remarks Keith Barr, Chief Executive Officer, IHG, said:

We have made further progress in 2019 with the acquisition of the top-tier luxury brand Six Senses and the planned launch of a new all-suites upper midscale brand.

More options for the traveller

For those who do travel, suite hotels offer more space – so if you are working for an extended length (or staying with a family), there’s a lot more room to play in (and sleep in).

I’ve stayed in a couple before (a Hyatt Place and Embassy Suites), and found they offer a bit more room to stay in, and yet – have some of the features of home.

How midscale this hotel will be, and what amenities it will offer against a Staybridge suites hotel will be an interesting thing to watch.

I just hope it is actual 1 BR suites like Embassy Suites and not a “we added a pullout sofa and a separated it from the bed area with a 3 foot x 3 foot drywall divider, enjoy your “suite”” like Comfort Suites.

And with that I’m having a flashback to the Comfort Suite O’Hare
