Wizz Air take delivery of their first Airbus A321neo

07/03/2019 by Kevincm

Wizz Air takes another big step forward in fleet operations, with the airline taking delivery of the first of many Airbus A320neo family aircraft – with the first one being an A321neo

The aircraft was delivered at the Airbus facility in Hamburg

This is the first of 184 Airbus A321neo aircraft that Wizz Air has on order, In addition, the airline has 72 Airbus A320neo on order too.  The airline is an Airbus- exclusive operator, flying the Airbus A320 (72 aircraft) and A321 (34, with 7 to be delivered) at the moment.

For those who are counting seats, this will come in with 239 seats – nine seats over their current Airbus A321 configuration. These will be equipped with ultra-slimline seating to support them

With 184 of the larger A321neo aircraft on order, Wizz Air is the largest Airbus customer worldwide of the type – with an additional six frames to enter service during 2019.

Part of the wider Indigo Group order

Wizz Air’s massive order was part of a larger order made by Indigo Partners, who have massive orders for:

  • Frontier Airlines – 100 A320neo, 34 A321neo
  • JetSMART – 56 A320neo, 14 A321neo
  • Volaris – 46 A320neo, 34 A321neo

This is in addition to Wizz’s new fleet.

Certainly for Wizz Air’s owners, they will be using the new planes at first to boost capacity within Central and Eastern Europe.

And having more paying bums on seats is what allows the group to buy more aircraft…
