SNAPSHOT: British Airways 294 Chicago to London Heathrow in World Traveller Plus

09/04/2019 by Kevincm

Time for another snapshot-this time focusing on the passenger experience between Chicago O’Hare to a London Heathrow on British Airways 294 in World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy).

For those of you who are new to the blog:

  • Trip Reports – These are full deep-dive reports taking you into the experience and the small things… as well as the big things!
  • Snapshots – These are bite-sized reviews that show you the basic product in some nice gentle headlines (and normally, only images shot on the phone)

Check-In

Check-in was handled at Terminal 5 at O’Hare. A dedicated area for British Airways customers is available (for both normal and premium passengers)

Security

The US TSA were their usual selves. Thankfully, they were efficient at clearing passengers at speed. The queues were a lot shorter than normally encountered.

Lounge

British Airways have two lounges at O’Hare – one for first class passengers (and oneworld Emerald) and one for Club World (oneworld Sapphire). I utilised to lounge for Sapphire card holders.

Boarding

Boarding was called from the lounge, with boarding managed by groups.

The Aircraft

The aircraft allocated for the flight was a Boeing 747-400 in a super Hi J configuration.

The Seat

The seat used is the classic World Traveller Plus Seat. This has been refitted with new in-flight entertainment screens. USB and power at seat was available.

Food and drink

A welcome drink was offered, as well as a full meal service and breakfast snack.

In flight Entertainment

This Boeing 747-400 is fitted with a Panasonic ex3 IFE system, with a fluid interface and a reasonable amount of content loaded.

In-flight connectivity

Gogo 2Ku in-flight Wi-Fi was offered in flight. As this was an overnight flight, I did not choose to utilise it.

Arrival

The plane arrives at London Heathrow Terminal 5B, requiring a short transit to the main terminal.

Baggage delivery

A combination of “delayed arrival” of luggage… and luggage being re-flighted caused a lot of inconvenience after arrival at Heathrow Airport.

That lounge looks pretty primitive for ‘abnormal’ passengers!
