Part Two: Onto Business
We’re stepping back from the main trip, as I explain the logic for this part of the trip – which was meant to be a LOT more simpler.
In terms of flights, I needed to keep this simple and low-cost – therefore using a British Airways Reward Flight Saver fare is the order of the day, with seats available in business class. Yes, I could have done EuroTraveller for the 1 hour and 20 flight, but considering how much I would be on my feet for the next few days, every little bit of comfort would be welcome
There’s also the matter of the hotel. And it will come as no surprise that I’ve selected my old haunt of the Ibis Budget St Pauli. Now, I could have gone to another one (the one in the city was very tempting), but ultimately on a trip like this, every minute is valuable.
And the ability to do work on autopilot is a major benefit – be it knowing where to go, what is where, which route is best to get to the Messe – it all adds up far too quickly, to the point where a cost saving may actually end up costing me more if I need taxis in the evening, or if I’m spending time lost getting from the venue to the hotel
At least some of my hard-earned Quidco cashback went to pay for this. That and a £30.48 Quidco rebate would lessen the pain of paying over £350 for a 1-star hotel.
It’s still fricking painful as hell.
With that all booked, there are a few more little things to do. Like register as press (it’s a strange sensation too), and also pack the dinner jacket, as Marisa from FlightChic kindly invited me to attend the Crystal Cabin Awards again.
And fill out the meeting diary. Oh, deity. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from doing this event – CALENDAR MANAGEMENT IS KEY. With companies demanding 7:30 meetings, combined with Jetlag, this was going to be fun.
And by “fun” I mean that in the form of “where is the pot of coffee with my name plastered over it please?”
So, here’s the map for Part 2 of this trip report

So that was the plan. Of course – I had a number of issues to deal with – mainly the lack of business clothes for the next day or two.
Would I be dressed casually… or would the Heathrow shops claim another victim? Let’s find out.
Next: Let’s go back to Heathrow, shopping and British Airways Galleries South Lounge
