For those of a certain age, if I said the words “Microsoft Flight Simulator“, there will be a lot of misty eyes, empty wallets and many base purchases and expansion pack boxes everywhere in mis-spent youths.
Well – good new – it seems the Microsoft Flight Simulator is back!
This was announced at E3 today as part of the Microsoft and XBox announcements. The trailer is below… and well… take a looksie.
According to Microsoft
Coming 2020, Microsoft Flight Simulator is the next generation of one of the most beloved simulation franchises. From light planes to wide-body jets, fly highly detailed and stunning aircraft in an incredibly realistic world. Create your flight plan and fly anywhere on the planet. Enjoy flying day or night and face realistic, challenging weather conditions.
The game will support 4K and HDR outputs, with it available with Xbox Game Pass. It will use satellite data and Azure AI to power the graphics engine it is inferred in the trailer.
It will be available for the XBox One Family and Windows 10 platform.
No specifications as yet have been given in terms of system requirements.
Microsoft Flight Simulator has been around since the days of MS-DOS, with the first version released in 1982, with development until 2006 with Flight Simulator X. Microsoft Flight was teased as a replacement, but this project was canned. For those needing a fix still until the new version is released, it’s available on Steam in a special edition.
Coming 2020
For those of you who are looking at rigs to make this work, or are saving pennies for the perfect XBox One for the perfect simulated flying experience, start saving. With no requirements published for this, and with 4K video output, you can bet this Microsoft Flight Simulator is going to be graphically intensive… and hopefully, totally immersive game-play that can transcend a console or a PC.
And as further requirements and specifications come out, maybe I’ll start working on a build list for those who want the enjoyable Flight Simulator PC.
