Hello from a hot and sweaty Singapore, where it’s in the mid-30s… and I’m doing a impression of being sweaty. Time for this week’s Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

New Aircraft News

  • British Airways take delivery of their first Airbus A350-1000 with a full reveal. Points to be Made has excellent coverage from the launch event including first impressisions and two parts on the BA2119 exhibition here and here
  • Air France announces A220 order, prepares exit plans for the A380 – Whilst it’s excellent news for the Airbus A220 programme, it’s not so good news for fans of the Airbus A380.

Strike updates

  • British Airways Pilots strike takes a step closer – We’re still awaiting the outcome of talks, and if strike action goes ahead.
  • Upcoming Strike action at Heathrow Airport (5/6 August) – This strike is going ahead. Plan ahead accordingly.

Routes and Networks

  • Etihad adds additional Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow service for Winter 2019/2020 – More frequencies between Abu Dhabi and London Heathrow.

Passenger Experience

  • Every journey starts with a step forward (off we go again) –  The joy of Digbeth Coach Station at 2am in the morning
  • Gate A10 -the height of passenger luxury? Well, maybe not – Gate A4 is just as bad.

Trains

  • Is split ticketing on the UK Railways worth it? – So, is it? The answer is a little complicated.
  • East Midlands Railway selects new trains by Hitachi – Another HighSpeed Train win for Hitachi, who will provide 33 trains to East Midlands Railway

Hotels

  • Intercontinental Hotels Group to remove miniature amenity bottles across its estate
