14/08/2019 by Kevincm

It seems Britsh Airways and Skylights are extended their partnership, with plans to offer Skylights AlloSky Virtual Reality headsets of certain British Airwys flights.

The headsets will be available on selected BA117 flights between London Heathrow and New York JFK in BA FIRST. The trial will run until the end of 2019.

Skylights AlloSky Headset is an interesting device that allows passengers to fully immerse themselves in 3D view regardless of the position they are sat in. The experience even works when they are lying fully flat. The headset can also be integrated into a seats vibration function for a four-dimensional effect.

In the current trial, the headsets alone will be used.

Programming that will be loaded onto the device include a selection of award-winning films, documentaries and travel programmes in 2D, 3D or 360° formats. There also will be guided meditation and sound therapy, specifically designed for customers who have a fear of flying.

In quotes

Sajida Ismail, Head of Inflight Product at British Airways, said:

“We are always looking at the latest technology to enhance our customers’ experience on the ground and in the air. Virtual reality has the power to revolutionise in-flight entertainment and we’re really excited to trial these new glasses as they should create a unique and memorable journey for our First customers”.

Further trials for AlloSky

Earlier this year, British Airways trialled the technology at Heathrow Terminal 5, giving customers a glimpse of the Club World cabin through virtual reality. It seems that trial was successful enough to allow Skylights and it’s AlloSky headset to the sky.

With Skylights quoting the device has been deployed on over 7000 fights with passengers using it for three hours at a time, it’ll be interesting to see if the trial is extended further into the cabin and onto other routes.
