Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond (29th September)

29/09/2019 by Kevincm

It’s that time of the week again where we look back at the some of the whys and wherefores in the world of passenger experience in Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.

This week, I went behind the scenes at Dublin Airport with a visitors group to get an insight on what helps make the airport tick. Many thanks to Dublin Airport for hosting, and the Dublin Airport Fire and Rescue for demonstrating some of the work they do. Look out for the write up next week!

Passenger Experience

  • Thomas Cook Group files for liquidation – A sad ending for the company. Repatriations are in progress for those who are aboard, whilst those at home will have to start looking for new holidays

The Business of Aviation

  • International Airlines Group takes a fiscal hit thanks to recent strikes – And it seems IAG isn’t moving from its current position on paying pilots more.
  • Not covered, Delta takes 20% of LATAM

New Aircraft News

  • Air New Zealand finalises Boeing 787-10 order – More Dreamliners for the Kiwi Airline
  • Air France takes delivery of its first Airbus A350 – New capacity for Air France, with new products on-board by Safran and Recaro.

Routes and networks

  • Delta to launch Boston to Rome service for Summer 2020, along with an North East Coast expansion – Start planning for Summer 2020 holidays!
  • KLM to add Austin, Texas to its network – Not in time for SXSW, but a useful link

Summer Premium Adventures

Let’s go heavy on the premium content, as I look Qatar Airways premium on-board products. How do they stack up?

  • A Helsinki Airport Stopover
  • QR302 Helsinki to Doha (Business Class)
  • A Short Doha Transit
  • QR946 Doha to Singapore featuring QSuites

Pretty Pictures

  • Air Canada Boeing 777-300ER at London Heathrow

Next week

As well as the trip report, I’m going to take you behind the scenes of Dublin Airport. On top of that, there’s still news from last week to digest and of course – updates from the week.

Until then… make sure you switch off the immersion!
