For those of you who like hand baggage only fares… or like it when airlines try to raise their prices through the back door – Lufthansa has decided to roll out the product through its entire network.
The product – “Economy Light” will now be offered on routes to Africa, Asia, Middle East and South America.

This applies to flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS from 30th October 2019.
German, Austrian and Swiss passengers will be able to get the fares from 6th November
Expanding the fare range
The Economy Light (or Hand Baggage Only) fares have been available on North American routes since summer 2018 in an attempt to counter low-cost carriers, as well as to appeal to passengers who are travelling without checked bags.
Of course, bags can be purchased for a few if needed (and in some cases – you might have been better off buying a more “full-fat fare” to start with).
Filling in gaps.
Well, it was fun whilst it lasted. HBO fares have been used to raise prices in the past, whilst making airlines look cheap in search engines.
And there’s nothing that I can see that changes my thoughts.
For those who are looking to save pennies on travel, and can live within an 8kg luggage allowance, there might be savings to be had – but check before you book
