In quotes

Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Mr Tan Kai Ping on the route announcement said

“We are excited to launch services to Brussels – a city that is both an important economic and political hub in Europe.

This also represents SIA’s commitment to constantly expand our network reach and provide our customers with a more seamless travel experience,”

Expanding the airlines European reach

Singapore Airlines currently serves London, Vienna, Copenhagen, Paris, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Zurich and Manchester. The resumption of Brussels with a four day a week flying programme shows that the airline is looking for profitable routes and increased connectivity – without having to rely on Star Alliance partners to do the heavy lift (thus capturing the traffic for themselves).

Of course, the success of this route could be down to many things – be it contracts with companies, political traffic and of course, general uptake of it.

It will be interesting to see if the route is sustainable after a few seasons and if it can grow to more than four flights a week.
