United Airlines to add Dublin to San Francisco Service

19/12/2019 by Kevincm

If you’re going to San Francisco, there’s going to be a second direct service between the city and Dublin Airport.

Wearing flowers in one’s hair is of course, optional.

United Airlines will provide a new service daily service between the two cities from 5th June 2020.

UA852 DEPART SFO 15:55 ARRIVE DUB 09:45+1
UA853 DEPART DUB 11:50 ARRIVE SFO 14:20

Commences 5th June 2020
Operates Daily
Booked Equipment: United Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner

With a Boeing 787-8 being deployed, this will feature 36 Business Class (Polaris) in a 2-2-2 layout, 70 Economy Plus Seats and 113 Economy seats in a 3-3-3 layout

United Airlines describe this launch as linking Silicon Valley and Dublin, Ireland – two of the world’s leading centres of technology and innovation

Whilst United Airlines will be the sole US airline connecting the West Coast of the USA to Dublin, it will face competition with IAG’s Aer Lingus, who have been operating a direct service to San Francisco for some years.

Patrick Quayle, United’s Vice President of International Network said

“Dublin and the Silicon Valley are two regions synonymous with big tech,”

“Many global tech companies have a major footprint in both regions, and they need a carrier with an extensive worldwide network to help conveniently connect their business. As the only U.S. airline to serve Ireland from the West Coast, United is uniquely suited to provide the connectivity these companies and economies need to continue thriving.”

A direct service for those who don’t like connections, but want to fly (and want Star Alliance points)

I’ve done a trip to San Francisco from Dublin – and normally, I have to change at least once on the way (normally at JFK as I fly oneworld airlines). For those who don’t like the hassle of changes, this will provide a useful link.

For those who prefer other carriers, it will go toe-to-toe with Aer Lingus who operate to the Golden Gate City too.

But for those of you who are Star Alliance focused, this could provide a very handy non-stop link from the Emerald Island.
