Earlier this week, Washington Dulles Airport announced that it would nave a new connection to Warsaw, with LOT Polish Airlines planning to launch a non-stop service between IAD and Warsaw.
The new service is planned as a three-times a week operation, with initial operations as follows:
LO039 DEPART WAW 16:50 ARRIVE IAD 20:30 LO040 DEPART IAD 22:25 ARRIVE WAW 13:25 Commences Operations:2nd June 2020 Operates Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays in both directions Booked Equipment: LOT Boeing 787 Dreamliner Data: Washington Dulles Airport
LOT Operate both the Boeing 787-8 and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, in a three class configuration (with the 787-9 offering more business and economy class seats).
It’s a Star Alliance member too, where it will join 17 others of its Star Alliance partners at Washington Dulles.
The timings allow for connections both at Dulles and Warsaw – although you might find you’ll have an overnight at Washington Dulles if you need to go elsewhere in the USA depending on your destination. At Warsaw, timings should meet the afternoon departures and arrivals banks.
In quotes
Yil Surehan, vice president of Airline Business Development for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority said
“LOT Polish Airlines is the 18th European carrier to join the Dulles International family, continuing the airport’s legacy of offering unparalleled connectivity from the National Capital Region to Europe and beyond,”
Meanwhile, LOT Polish Airlines is keen to expand, as Rafal Milczarski, CEO states:
“A direct flight from Warsaw to Washington, D.C., has long been on our shortlist,”
“New long-haul flights to the USA are the backbone of our strategy, and announcing the new connection to Washington now certainly is not our last word.”
Expansion ahead
With a statement like the one that Rafal Milczarski made, it’ll be interesting to see where LOT decide to go next. Currently, the airline operates 8 Boeing 787-8 and 7 Boeing 787-9 (with two to come) in their long haul fleet.
In terms of destinations, the airline serves Chicago O’Hare, Detroit Edmonton, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, Newark, New York JKF and Toronto.
San Francisco will join the network in August 2020, behind this launch.
