The aircraft is the first of nine ATR72-600 that are being delivered to the airline, via the lessor Norwegian Air Capital. The remaining aircraft will be delivered through to the end of 2020.
Currently, TAROM operates a mixed fleet of ATR42-500 and ATR72-500 on its domestic network. These will be replaced by the ATR72-600, which will add an additional 330,00 seats a year on their domestic network (at the same operating cost to the airline).
As well as an improved passenger experience onboard, the upgrade will. enable the airline to benefit from state-of-the-art avionics, including glass cockpit, LPV and V-NAV capabilities, for safe, flexible and efficient operations.
TAROM has been working with ATR over the past 20 years and have also operated the ATR42-300 in its past.

Stefano Bortoli, Chief Executive Officer of ATR commented
“Renewed confidence from a loyal customer is the best possible endorsement for an aircraft manufacturer. Especially when the decision is made after a vigorous evaluation of the existing solutions on the market – we know that our product is working for our customers. All regions deserve the same opportunity to be part of a connected world and ATR aircraft show unrivalled performance in connecting people and businesses responsibly.”
Moving through changes
TAROM has been through a number of changes in the past year which has resulted in musical chairs at the top of the airline, which could result in Romanian government ploughing more money in to help the airline.
However, it seems that this hasn’t bothered the lessors too much, as the aircraft are being delivered.
Hopefully, TAROM can deliver with the new capacity additional passengers as it shuttles passengers through Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport and beyond.
