The destinations that will get the capacity boost will include:
- Cape Town will increase by three services a week From March 30 until April 19
- Seattle will increase by a daily service from May 1 until May 31
- Miami will increase by a daily service from April 1 until May 31
According to the airline, these are being offered to customers who want to travel during the busy spring period.
In quotes
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances,
“We know that these destinations in the US and Africa are highly sought after, particularly during Spring, so we are pleased to be able to offer more flights to these destinations for our customers who are looking to get away.”
Shifting Capacity
Whilst some of the timings cover the Spring holidays (Easter in particular), it doesn’t show the full story. With aircraft on the ground and not able to serve China (due to the Coronavirus) , it’s left a bit of a hole of what they can do.
With the option of keeping them in the air and earning money, the airline has chosen to operate the aircraft to destinations where the capacity would be welcome.
Judging the time these capacity improvements are in place, British Airways expects the situation not to calm down for some time to come…

Was just @CPT on Tuesday and BA had two 744s parked for return flights that evening. Never understood how SAA could let slip any long hauls from Europe or North America into CPT vs everything through JNB. No wonder the airline went bankrupt!
