In not totally unexpected news, the United States today announced an extension of the European Travel Restrictions, this time extending it to the UK and Ireland.
There might be a brighter tomorrow. But it will take time.
The extension of the ban will commence Midnight Tuesday Eastern Time (04:00GMT).
US citizens and US legal residents would still be able to return to the US from those countries after the ban came into effect. UK or Irish citizens will not be permitted to travel.
The same exclusions that are a part of the already existing European travel restrictions will also apply to the UK and Ireland.
Passengers will be funnelled through specific airports, and be told self-quarantine for 14 days.
It goes without saying, this will impact British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, TUI and most UK-based carriers that have North American operations.
At the time of writing – no updated travel advice has been issued – we will be updating this when we get it.
If you’re a UK or Irish citizen who must get to the USA, you need to shift up your travel to Sunday or Monday at your own risk.
For now, lots of wings are being clipped and lots of walls are being put up to beat Covid-19/Coronavirus/Human Malware.
Only time will tell if this is effective.
