It’s Sunday again, so it must be time for some more airplane art.
This week, we have a KLM Boeing 747-400M “City of Tokyo” preparing for departure from Chicago O’Hare International Airport, as it prepares to make the transatlantic cross back to its home base of Amsterdam Schiphol.
KLM used to operate 22 Boeing 747-400 and 10 Boeing 747-400M (Passenger/Cargo combi aircraft) in its long haul fleet. However, these have been recently withdrawn, including PH-BFT (which the aircraft in the image today).
It marks the end of operations the Boeing 747-400M Passenger/Cargo Combi type currently.
The airline will instead rely on twin-engined aircraft to conduct its long-distance routes, including the Airbus A330-200, Airbus A330-300, Boeing 777-200ER, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 787-10.
Five Boeing 747-400ERF (Extended Range Freighters) have been retained by the airline as Cargo aircraft.
More Airplane Art next week!
