It’s that time of the week again, where we see what COVID-19 has done to the aviation world. Welcome to Last Week at Economy Class and Beyond.
With the lockdown continuing for another three weeks in the UK, the roads are as quiet as anything out there… (except during peak times – and even then, its nothing like a rush hour)
Loyalty
American Airlines offers status extensions and reduced qualification requirements – and I understand Air France/KLM is doing something similar….
Rescue flights
- Emirates adds more rescue flights – The airline is setting up more return flights, whilst operating cargo out of Dubai International
- Emirates sets up COVID-19 testing at Dubai International for departing passengers – and expect to be tested for COVID-19 before you leave Dubai.
Fleet parking
- Lufthansa parks its Airbus A340-600 fleet – The A340 fleet could be one that is parked permanently after this is all over.
Terminal Closures
- Heathrow Airport closes Terminals 3 and 4 – All flights to operate out of Terminal 2 and 5 – Consolidation is the name of the game as people arrive and leave the UK, returning to their homes.
Passenger Experience
- Delta Air Lines introduce snack bags – keeping you snacking, as well as socially distant.
Pretty Pictures
Next week
With no sense of normality, airlines are continuing to adjust their plans for the future – and hopefully entice passengers back into the air when the time comes. We’ll be keeping an eye open… as they we always do.
Until then, stay safe.
