It’s Sunday again, so it must be time for some more airplane art.
This week, I’ve gone through the archives for this picture – which features a British Midland International Airbus A330-200 taxing at its home base of Manchester Airport, as it prepares to head off on a long-distance excursion to Las Vegas or the Caribbean (well, it certainly wasn’t Chicago that day).
British Midland operated three Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which were used on routes from Manchester to Las Vegas, Chicago and Caribbean, as well as one aircraft operating between London Heathrow and Riyadh/Jeddah.
These aircraft were supported by Airbus A319, A320 and A321 on the short to midhaul markets.
G-WWBM had a colourful career, starting with BMI in 2002, then being leased to South African Airways, returned from lease, then leased to Turkish Airlines, returned and being finally withdrawn in October 2012. The aircraft was re-registered as G-CHTZ, where it was leased to Thomas Cook until it’s demise in 2019. The aircraft has been stored since then.
More Airplane Art next week!

- … and as to why I know this aircraft wasn’t heading to Chicago… the Chicago aircraft was waiting for had a broken engine control unit, and we were going nowhere fast with a six hour delay on the clock. Although it did give a chance for some amazing photos when crossing over Greenland…
