It seems that the requirement of wearing a face mask when travelling is growing, with Eurostar making it a requirement when travelling with them from the 4th May 2020.

Eurostar state the following:
From 4 May, passengers must wear a face mask or face covering at our stations and on board in line with guidelines announced by the French and Belgian governments.
Please ensure you have a mask with you when you travel. Any type of mask is suitable as long as it effectively covers your nose and mouth. If you don’t have a mask you may be refused travel on our services. We’d like to advise you that fines may be imposed in France and Belgium if you’re not wearing a mask.
Eurostar is operating a heavily reduced timetable, operating four trains a day in total (two to Paris Gare Du Nord, two to Brussels-Midi) as non-stop services. Services were meant to stop at Ashford International, Ebbsfleet International, Calais Fréthun and Lille Europe have been suspended at this time.
Also note that as you’re entering France and the EU, there are limitations on entry. The following reasons are accepted:
- EU citizens of mainland continental Europe returning home to their main residence
- UK & Non-EU citizens with a residency permit in an EU country
- Essential workers (you’ll need to check if you fall into that category)
Keeping up to date
Eurostar have a constantly updated Coronavirus Information page on Eurostar website which provides the latest information on safe travelling during this period, available flexi-travelling by train and timetables that users should check before embarking on a trip. Part of the New Normal?
With airlines requiring passengers to wear face masks becoming more of a thing and countries making it a legal requirement when out and about, face masks are going to be here to stay for a while.
As for travel – expect to see other carriers around the world add this new requirement in as they start up or resume services as part of the new normal until work elsewhere has been completed and medically validated.
