Airbus in the USA took a major step forward with their Airbus A220 aircraft – with the first aircraft assembled at the Mobile AL plant taking its maiden flight on the 2nd June.

The aircraft – an Airbus A220-300 – is destined for Delta Air Lines. It took flight in the morning of 2nd June, landing at 13:44 local time after conducting flight tests other test sequences.
Delta is due to accept a total of 45 of A220-100 and 50 A220-300 aircraft.
The Airbus Mobile AL facility has been working on assembling the Airbus A220 aircraft since 2019. The plant also produces Airbus A320 family aircraft (with a new A220 Final Assembly Line coming online recently).
Whilst A220 production operations are still based out of Mirabel in Canada, the Mobile operation was set up in response to possible anticompetitive action by Boeing. With that threat gone, Airbus sees that having a second line to assemble the A220 is more than acceptable.
