Lufthansa Group is plotting ahead with its network restart, with the initial network coming to life shortly. By September, the airline is aiming to bring 70% of its long haul network back, and 90% of its short-medium haul routes.
Lets look at the breakdowns.
Lufthansa
Lufthansa itself will aim to fly more than 100 times a week between North American and Frankfurt/Munich. 90 flights a week are planned to Asia, 20 to The Middle East and 25 to Africa.
On short and medium-haul routes, Lufthansa will offer a total of 1,800 weekly connections from September onwards. There will be 102 destinations from Frankfurt and 88 from Munich, including Malaga, Alicante, Valencia, Naples, Rhodes, Palermo, Faro, Madeira, Olbia, Dubrovnik, Reykjavik and many other summer destinations from Frankfurt.
Onboard, customers will get a disinfecting wipe before every flight.
In terms of catering, on short and medium-haul flights in Business Class, the beverage service and the normal meal service will be reinstated. On long-haul flights, guests in all classes will again be offered the usual range of beverages.
In long haul First and Business Class, customers will once again be able to choose from a range of dishes. In Economy Class, customers will also continue to receive a meal.
Lufthansa’s changes have been loaded and are available for booking.
Austrian Airlines
Austrian will take to the long haul routes again in July, with Bangkok, Chicago Newark-NJ, and Washington DC all getting up to three flights a week.
The European network offer will also be expanded to include various routes from July onwards – including flights to Greece for those who need some summer sun.
Swiss International Airlines
SWISS plans to return to about 85% of the destinations it served by autumn, with about one-third of its capacity on these routes.
The initial focus will be on European services from Zurich and Geneva. Further intercontinental destinations will also be reintroduced onto its network.
Eurowings
Eurowings is planning to fly up to 80 per cent of its destinations again in the course of the summer. Holiday destinations such as Italy, Spain, Greece and Croatia are attracting interest and capacity to these destinations is being laid on.
However…
Whilst it seems to be all sunshine and flowers, there are still travel restrictions in place. You will need to ensure you can enter the country that you’re travelling to.
In addition, restrictions may be imposed – requiring you to obey stricter hygiene standards and arrive early for your flight.
Face Masks will now be part of the Terms and Conditions of Travel
Whilst Lufthansa and Eurowings have implemented face mask standards, from the 8th June, they will be required for travel through the entire journey.
Also, The General Conditions of Carriage (GTC) will be amended too – meaning, you must bring enough masks with you for your flight. This will apply for all Lufthansa Group carriers – so this will be a requirement when you travel.
And if you don’t like face masks… I have little commentary on that later (once I’ve had some vodka).
