British Airways updates its meal services

13/06/2020 by Kevincm

British Airways is taking steps to improve its onboard meal service, with new bento-style boxes being offered from the 16th June.

British Airways had to make temporary adjustments to their onboard catering while they worked on a new solution with our catering suppliers that follows guidance from regulators, minimising interactions between our customers and crew.

The new boxes will be flying from 16th of June 16 will have an enhanced temporary catering.

Let’s look at some examples.

Customers travelling to a long haul destination will be offered pre-prepared meal boxes including dishes such as a salad, hot entrée or sandwich, served with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Snacks will also be available between meals.

If you’re travelling in short-haul Business Class (Club Europe), d a pre-prepared meal, such as salad or sandwich with a selection of beverages will be offered.

Finally, those passengers travelling in Euro Traveller (short-haul economy class), will be offered a complimentary snack and a bottle of water.

The airline is continuing to take advice from relevant authorities and incorporate this into the development of the onboard experience and offerings to passengers.

It’s a step up

As travellers begin to return to the air (depending if there is a quarantine or not and if they’re allowed to travel), there is still demand for a passenger experience. It is down to airlines how to deliver that experience with others choosing the safest way to deliver onboard.

Boxes may be boring, but they allow for minimal contact between crew and passengers, with in theory, a box being given out, the waste contained in the said box and then collected again.

However, for airlines that had sought to reduce plastic waste onboard aircraft – this objective has fallen by the wayside by now, in the name of protecting the content of foodstuffs.
