Avanti West Coast adds a face covering on their trains… to remind you to wear yours

17/06/2020 by Kevincm

Face mask season is in full swing at the moment, with airlines threatening suspension of flying and governments threatening fine if you don’t wear on on public transport. However, there is a little room for lightness, with Avanti West Coast adding new decals to two of their trains.

Which now wears… a face mask.

Two of the Class 390 Pendolino trainsets have vinyls wrapped the nose of two trains with a yellow face covering, along with a message on the side saying: ‘Safe Travels. Wear a face covering.’

The wearing of face coverings became mandatory on the 15th of July in England (whilst in Scotland and Wales, the wearing coverings is optional but strongly recommended when taking public transport).

With both passengers and staff wearing face masks, Avanti West Coast has also introduced measures for customer protection. These include reservations on services being mandatory, one-way systems at train stations and signing to remind people to keep their distance.

Avanti West Coast is also currently trialling a surface sanitiser onboard its Pendolino and Voyager fleets as part of an enhanced cleaning regime.

Managing Director of Avanti West Coast, Phil Whittingham, said:

“Nothing is more important than safety, so we’ve introduced these measures to give our customers confidence to travel with us.

“We also need our customers’ help: please bring a face covering with you, buy your ticket in advance and avoid the busiest times if possible.”
