The UK Government after setting up its Quarantine on arrival plan has back-pedalled hard, with the announcement of travel-corridors.
Of course, the Government has made life difficult – as always.
There are two lists
- The first list covers countries which you can travel to and not require placing yourself in Quarantine/Self-Isolation on Return. Note, if you transit via a country not on this list, you will have to quarantine.
- The second list deals with countries that the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office exempt from advice against ‘all but essential’ international travel. This means you can visit the country and have insurance coverage but may need to self-isolate on your return
The devolved regions have variations on these rules too:
- For Scotland, The Scottish government says it has not decided on whether to ease quarantine restrictions as yet.
- For Wales, the Welsh government has also not decided whether to follow England’s measures at the time of writing
- For Northern Ireland, they will still quarantine travellers arriving from outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland
In any case, you will need to complete a form at https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk before you enter the United Kingdom.
Travel Corridors – Countries that do not require Quarantine/Self-Isolation on arrival into England
Source list at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-travel-corridors
- This list is valid from 10th July 2020
- This list does NOT guarantee you entry into these countries as most have their quarantine and entry rules in place.
- Again – this is for Direct flights/travel only. Transit via a country not on this list and you will have to self-isolate upon your return
- See above for travel to Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

But before you get booking…
I’m excited that these changes are finally being made and that we can start travelling again. Honest – I would love to jump on an aircraft and head off somewhere (and I’m pondering it right now if I’m totally honest). However, these lists are fluid and will change as countries adjust their policies on the fly as they consider the COVID-19 situation in their countries.
And remember – these lists are not reciprocal. Countries on this list do not have to let UK citizens have a free pass into the country and vice-versa.
And don’t forget to pack face-masks/coverings and hand sanitizer. Every country has slightly different rules on face coverings…

Kirsten Wahsner says
Dear madam or Sir,
i would be pleased to visit my daughter, who is living with her partner and their newborn baby (she has given birth on 3rd of May) in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, first time after lockdown came into force and since 23rd of February.
After announcement easing quarantine rules, despite any confusion about camong into force, i booked a return flight from Berlin to Manchester for the 9th of July and back on the 12th of July.
Now my question is: must I pass the entirely fortnight of quarantine even when the measures drop down one day later?
Thank you very much for your attention, yours sincerely, Kirsten Wahsner
