There’s one Eurostar service that is… a little odd – many due to immigration rules and it’s the London to Amsterdam route.
Whilst passengers can travel from London to Amsterdam, passengers could not travel from Amsterdam to London, without first taking a Thalys and clearing immigration in Brussels.
Well, things will change on the 26th of October, with Eurostar being able to offer a one-seat ride between Amsterdam and London.
Eurostar train at Amsterdam Central – Image, Economy Class and Beyond.
The direct service will launch on the 26th of October. Passengers will be able to clear customs at Amsterdam Central and retain the one-seat ride to London.
The journey between London St Pancras and Amsterdam Central takes just over four hours and nine minutes (provided you don’t get caught in a delay), or 3 hours 30 minutes to Rotterdam Central.
According to Railway Gazzette, Eurostar will also carry intra-Schengen passengers between Amsterdam Central and Brussels Midi (as they do currently in the Brussels Midi to Amsterdam Central segment).
Tickets for the direct return journey go on sale from 1st September from £40 each way. Bookings (when they open) will be open up to six months in advance of travel allowing you to plan ahead for travel over the Christmas period and up to February 2021. Tickets are available on www.eurostar.com.
Travel is still very much in flux, with governments changing entry or quarantine requirements. As such Eurostar is offering passengers more flexibility with all fares now exchangeable with no fee up to 14 days before departure. Bookings between 13 days before departure and day of departure will be charged an exchange fee of £30/€40 in Standard Class, £40/€50 in Standard Premier, and £15/€20 for children.
These flexible fares, which apply to all bookings made from 1st July until 31st December, are valid for any dates of travel available at the time of purchase. The increased flexibility comes in addition to options for those with existing bookings who may want to change their travel plans.
The journey from London St Panrcas to Amsterdam Central is an interesting one – as I reviewed when travelling in Eurostar Standard Class. You can find my review here
