It is Sunday again, so it must be time at Airplane Art.
This week, we have a Lufthansa Boeing 747-8i retrojet parked and stored at Frankfurt Airport as it awaits its reactivation into service.
Lufthansa operates a fleet 19 Boeing 747-8i aircraft in their long haul fleet. Some of these – like D-ABYT are parked up during this time, whilst others are currently active – currently, ten active, nine inactive. The German airline is the largest passenger operator of the Boeing 747-8i (the last generation of the Boeing 747).
D-ABYT joined the Lufthansa fleet in 2015, however, was parked in March 2020 (due to obvious reasons). The aircraft was painted in the retro Lufthansa colour scheme (looking rather smart for itself in today’s sea of white and blue/black).
Lufthansa’s long haul fleet is wide and varied – with Airbus A330-300, Airbus A340-300, Airbus A340-600, Airbus A350-900, Airbus A380, Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 747-8i in its fleet – all in various states of activation or deactivation, pending a pick-up in the market to allow them to fly again.
More Airplane Art next week!
